The Portland Trail Blazers joined the NBA as an expansion team in 1970. The “Blazers” struggled early on, but underwent a stunning turnaround in the 1976–1977 season. They posted their first winning season, dominated in the playoffs, and advanced to the NBA finals where they defeated the Philadelphia 76ers to capture their only NBA Championship. The team’s on-court success kicked off a phenomenon known as “Blazermania” and the team enjoyed a sellout streak that wouldn’t end until they moved from Memorial Coliseum to the Rose Garden in 1995. The Rose Center was renamed the Moda Center in 2013 and Portland Trail Blazers Ticket Holders attend home games there to this day. Blazers fans can get tickets to Moda Center from Golden Tickets.
In 1982, the Portland Trail Blazers drafted legendary guard Clyde “the Glide” Drexler, the franchise’s all-time leading scorer and rebounder. With Drexler on board, Portland Trail Blazers Ticket Holders watched the team capture the Western Conference title in the 1989–1990 season, but lose to the the Detroit Pistons in the NBA Finals. The Blazers nabbed another Western Conference victory in 1992, but fell to the Chicago Bulls in 6 games.
The Portland Trail Blazers played poorly for most of the rest of the decade, but did go deep into the post-season in 1998 and 1999. In the early 2000s the Blazers’ post-season appearance streak came to an end, and the franchise entered into a rebuilding period.
Beginning in 2008, the Portland Trail Blazers returned to the post-season for 3 consecutive years behind all-star guard Brandon Roy. Injuries forced Roy into early retirement, and the Blazers soon fell out of contention. A few years later, the Blazers rallied around guard Damian Lillard to achieve moderate success and win a division title in the 2017–2018 season.
